Business Motivation
To expand its lending offerings and cater to the growing demand for flexible financing options, the bank's innovation team introduced Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL), a revolutionary product designed to increase loan books and enhance customer satisfaction.
Built on the bank's robust digital lending infrastructure, BNPL provided an additional channel to extend credit to a broader customer base, fostering revenue growth while empowering customers with access to convenient and non-predatory financing solutions.
How it Works
To provide seamless integration with the e-commerce shopping experience, the bank partnered with various online merchants to offer BNPL as an alternative payment option at checkout. This integration enabled bank customers to effortlessly utilize BNPL by simply selecting the "Pay Later" button on the merchant's website.
Upon selecting the "Pay Later" option, customers would securely log in using their banking credentials and proceed to customize their BNPL repayment plan. This customizable feature allowed customers to choose the desired repayment frequency and installment amounts that aligned with their financial situation.
Low-Fidelity Wireframes
To ensure alignment with user requirements and establish a clear understanding of the project's scope, I commenced by creating low-fidelity wireframes based on the user stories provided by the project manager. This initial step served as a critical foundation for validating my interpretation of the user stories and identifying any potential discrepancies.
Subsequently, I convened a demo session with the developers and project manager to present the wireframes and facilitate a comprehensive review of the proposed user flow. This collaborative approach enabled us to collectively discuss the design decisions, address any concerns, and ensure that the wireframes accurately reflected the intended user experience.
Landing Pages
The landing page communicates what’s in it for the merchant when they add Buy Now Pay Later to their payment options and collect their details for onboarding. There was a view for customers as well to further detail the features of the BNPL solution.
Micro-Interactions
By incorporating micro-interactions, I aimed to create a more immersive and engaging user experience that not only informed customers about BNPL but also instilled a sense of excitement and anticipation.
These subtle design elements played a crucial role in capturing customer attention and highlighting the advantages of BNPL, ultimately contributing to the product's success.
Customer Dashboard
I designed a customer dashboard to provide a holistic view of BNPL transactions, including purchases and repayments. This empowered customers to track their expenses, manage repayments, and avoid late fees.
A color-coded ring system visually indicated repayment status: blue for ongoing, green for complete, and red for overdue.
Merchant Dashboard
To empower onboarded merchants to track their BNPL-generated business, I designed a merchant dashboard that highlights transaction volume and value—key information for informed decision-making.
The dashboard also facilitates reconciliation and dispute resolutions by providing merchants with a transparent view of each transaction's status.
In-Store Experience
To cater to customers seeking in-store BNPL transactions, I developed a dedicated mobile app module. This module mirrored the core functionality of the online BNPL experience, with the added convenience of manual price entry and merchant QR code scanning for seamless in-store payments.
